Green Cameroon is a non-governmental Organization with environmental preservation and conservation being its main domain of interest. The organization is running under authorization No 352/G.37/D.14/I/VOL10/BAPP.It has a wide range of membership drawn from various works of life with a singular interest of protecting and preserving the environment which is of prime importance to human existence. Green Cameroon’s Head Office is situated some 100m behind the Buea Rural Council office Buea, Cameroon . WHAT WE DO Green Cameroon is presently carrying out the following projects. Under our schools club activities, with the authorization of the ministry of national education, we are creating, operating and running environment clubs in secondary and high schools in and out of the province. We think this clubs are important because Cameroon does not have environmental education in its secondary and high school programs. We therefore think that it is important that our youths should be introduced to environmental education and be thought to love and care for nature. In these clubs, students are encouraged to carry out small projects like the planting of flower gardens, trees, fruit orchards, general cleaning and waste disposal campaigns. We also organize competitions for the various school clubs after short intervals to keep them busy and active in the field. These competitions are intended to reward those who we think are making progress in deepening their knowledge on the environment. Also in the clubs, students are thought and encouraged to write environmental poems and songs that they can present on occasions and ceremonies. You should visit our picture gallery to see some of our club pictures.Green Cameroon also engages in urban sanitation and waste disposal projects. We do tree planting and try to work with the authorities that be to ensure the conservation of our natural resources. In the domain of sensitization, we are very active in the fight against global warming and climate change. We are currently partnering with some local and foreign NGOs to unite our effort and make the campaign effective. We regularly organize seminars and public talks on global warming and climate change. We organized a match against global warming in December 2007 and the pics can be found in our photo gallery.Another project we are working on now is trying to vulgarise the utilization of organic manure wich is not very populare here, by encouraging and teaching rural women how to sort and manage their house hold waste. Our intention is to get a compost pit, do the waste collection and put in place a sample farm where we are going to demonstrate how effective compost manure can be use in cultivation while we also offer technical help to those rural women who are ready to use compost manure in their farms. This project is still in the planning face as all the requirements have not yet been obtained GREEN CAMEROON AND CLIMATE CHANGE Circumstances are proving that man's quest for development has not left him without some worries. one of these worries is global warming and climate change. As the polar ice caps melt away, see levels rise, our industries produce more and more green house gases and our forest and see resources keep disappearing at a steady rate, and there is need for much to be done at the level of governments, communities, organisations and individuals. We therefore think that it is time we all come together, unite our efforts to fight climate change before it is too late. We fear floods, draughts and desertification but have we really done enough to avoid some of these things?, many meetings and summits have been held, there have been much talk and conventions signed but how much of all the resolutions is put in practice?. Green Cameroon thinks now is the right time for all to take action by joining the fight against climate change. Green Cameroon is presently working in collaboration with the kids call project that has to do with creating environmental awareness amongst youths and giving them a chance to air out their minds to great politicians of the world. So if you are a youth who is concerned about the environment in general and climate change in particular here is an opportunity for you to make your opinion known. All you have to do is to log onto the kids call site which can be found at http://www.kidscall.info and send your message to the world’s leading politicians. You can also write the kids call team through kids@kidscall.info and they will answer any questions you might have. We also took part in the December 8th demonstrations against climate change that had to coincide with the UN Climate talk that took place in Bali Indonesia. We constantly hold conferences and public talk to sensitise and throw more light on climate change issues. In collaboration with the Cameroon Ozone Club, we have also created Ozone clubs in our schools where students learn and discourse on issues concerning the depletion of the ozone layer. INTER SCHOOL CLUB NEWS We received last week an appeal for support letter from Goverment Secondary School Buea town For the Creation of an Environmental corner on their Campus. We want the students to know that we are presently looking in to their problem and will get in touch with them soon,
