Energy Independence Day!

Wow! The 4th of July was so great! It's always been one of my favorite holidays- something about the mixture of firecrackers and the Declaration of Independence i think :)
This Independence Day we asked people to sign another Declaration- one of Energy Independence. We wanted to show that Alaskans want clean, American-made energy that will provide us with good jobs and will lower our dependence on energy sources abroad.
We gathered signatures in Seward (We decided to go there so we could watch the Mount Marathon race too) and had some great conversations with people who were interested in knowing more about renewables, or were already off the grid and wanted to do more. It was a beautiful day (an unheard of 80 degrees!) and with the help of some dedicated volunteers, we got over 80 people to sign the Declaration of Energy Independence. Not Bad!
Later on we enjoyed a BBQ and bonfire under the midnight sun with our new friends from the Resurrection Bay Conservation Association. An excellent way to spend the 4th of July!
