1. Green Transportation. Riding bike or walking can significantly reduce your carbon footprint. Each gallon of gasoline saved will reduce the carbon emission by 20 pounds.
2. Check lights. Identify frequently used light fixtures that use incandescent bulbs; order fluorescent replacements bulbs
3. Check the temperature setting on your water-heater. Reduce the setting to 120°F (typically the “warm” setting; or halfway between the low and medium settings), if it is not already set to that temperature.
4. Check the settings on your appliances. Where the option is available – and is not already selected -- select the energy-saving setting on your refrigerator, dishwasher, washing machine and other major appliances.
5. Check your thermostat settings. During the heating season, set the thermostat lower, especially at night or when rooms are unoccupied. During the cooling season, set the temperatures higher. If you have a programmable thermostat you can automate the daily settings.
6. Check showerheads and faucets. Determine whether any of your showerheads are models that use more than 2.5 gallons per minute. If so, order low-flow showerheads. Similarly, verify that your bathroom and kitchen water faucets have aerators. Order an aerator for each faucet that does not have one and that can accommodate one. These steps will reduce your use of hot water – and your use of energy to heat that water.
7. Turn off appliances that you are not using. Switch off TVs, computers, lights, etc. that are not being used and unplug items on “standby” (that use electricity even when not being used) , including TVs, video and audio systems, computers, and chargers (for cell-phones and other electronic equipment).
8. Check car tires for proper inflation. This can improve gas mileage. The appropriate air pressure typically is listed on the door-pillar on the driver’s side, on the inside of the glove-compartment door or in the vehicle manual.
9. Write a letter to one of your elected representatives at the local, state or Federal level. Tell them you believe climate change is important; and that you support the development and implementation of a climate action plan to reduce emissions and prepare for climate change impacts
RECYCLE………RECYCLE………RECYCLE………RECYCLE………RECYCLE
This is a signifcant step forward by the new administration. We will need students who take on the clean energy career seriously so that the future generations are well informed and passionate.

Atleast scientists have realized and have started taking some action atleast. I believe it is upon all of us to make government and people aware about the impending climate change.

I have posted another interesting article on the effect of global warming and how it is intricately interwined with nature- it was in perfect blance until humans stepped in.....

read the article and decide for yourself. May be in few years time we can see the disappearing act http://www.nsf.gov/news/news_summ.jsp?cntn_id=114866&govDel=USNSF_51
Where are we heading. Read the article below. another instance of human intervention with nature and pure ignorance. Wonder when the realization period is going to come. For satisfying grees of one human lifetime we are destroying nature's million years of legacy.

Polar Bears are Dying. Still doubt humans are responsible. Read the following article and decide for yourself. http://www.france24.com/en/20081024-polar-bears-dying-out-russian-region-expert
Humans are tired killing of their own class and now they cannot keep their hands off nature to satisfy pure greed and arrogance. I believe such issues needs to be publicized so that it brings more awareness for the cause and gets further public attention and stringent enviornmental policies.
