Here's an article on green options to mow your grass, Greening the Lawn...Even Mow.
On a personal note, sorry I've been for a while. I recently moved from New Orleans, though in the last few weeks I made an ill-timed visit that gave me yet another hurricane evacuation. Global warming is real. Read More »

I have just signed up for cessation of physical phonebook delivery. It's a quick thing that can quickly snowball into a big impact if you take the couple minutes to just fill in your name & address, then forward it on to others.

Lately, the world news has been filled with stories of hungry people struggling to feed themselves as food prices rise dramatically. When eating out, you often need paper napkins, and if you're like me, you don't want to run out once you sit down. That means, once you're done, you might have some un-used napkins. Don't throw them away. Put them in your purse, pocket, glove compartment, etc. It's always handy to have them around and put them to good use.

Lately, we've gotten a couple of messages via the listserv, marketing products that claim to be green. Please do not use the membership of this group as a means to market products.
The purpose of this group is to share advice on living in an environmentally friendly way. It is not to sell things; most posts involve buying less, not more. And if one product is recommended over another, it is out of concern for the Earth, not self interest.

It's good to be back. For the past week, I've been slammed by a project that made me loathe the thought of spending more time at the keyboard. But that's behind me now. Thanks to Krithika for his posts.

Urinals (such a lovely word) use less water than regular toilets. So, guys, use one if that's all you need.
PlanetSave.com offers a way to make sending email green. For every email you send from one of their accounts, they purchase and protect five square feet of rain forest. So, it's an easy way to help the Earth. Read More »
While I aplaud anyone compelled to write their editor regarding environmental issues, I do question the efficacy of an organization, like this one, prompting its members to write their editors. What I'd recommend instead is prompting the members in a focused way to write and confront journalists who do a particularly bad job of covering the environment. Read More »
For many, cooking means keeping the heat on full blast right up until we take that food off the stove. But there are simple things we can do to use less energy. Read More »
FYI, our latest member, Lauren, is actually an admin for this whole site. (She's now admin of this group, too.) In other words, the group has got the ear of the people running the show. So please offer your feedback.
This morning I woke to find it 19 degrees Celsius (66 degrees Fahrenheit). I stepped outside and could hear the sound of two neighbors' window-unit air conditioners, running. Of course, it's strange, because the outdoor tempreture is already cooler than the recommended setting for an AC, 24 C, 75 F. Read More »
Occasionally you've got to print a formal document, one that prevents you from re-using one-sided paper or printing in draft mode. But there's still a way to be more environmentally friendly: print the document double-sided. Even if you don't have a printer that automatically prints double-sided, there's an easy way to do it, and I'll tell you how. Read More »

I have the great misfortune of having Windows Vista as my operating system. But if there is some consolation for the frequent lock-ups and freezes, it may be this feature. It allows me to easily adjust the power setting of the computer. (And you can do the same thing with a Mac.) Read More »
