State Department Feels Public Pressure in Run-up to Climate Conference

In the weeks before the UN Climate Conference in Bali, Indonesia, it was clear that the US delegation was not planning to play a strong leadership role in solving the climate crisis. It was therefore important that the delegation hear from people across the country. We asked people to contact the State Department and the response was stunning. Thousands wrote to State Department officials to express their thoughts. The State Department and the White House Council on Environmental Quality called the We Campaign staff to let us know they were receiving the feedback and passing it onto the delegation.

There's no question that when thousands of people call or write, government staff and elected officials can't help but feel the eyes of the world on them.

This is just one example of how individuals, organizations, businesses and governments are helping to stop climate change. There are thousands more across the country and around the world – and it’s through these efforts that we’re going to be successful. We can’t afford not to succeed in this unprecedented challenge to our planet.
