Concerned Teenager Helps Spread Al Gore’s Message
As a teenager, Taylor Francis knows exactly which generation is going to be most affected by the climate crisis. His.But instead of waiting for adults to help halt climate change, Taylor carves time out of his schedule as a high school student to talk to a variety of people -- from school children to the elderly-about the urgent need for action on the climate crisis. He is so effective that his presentations are often met with standing ovations.
Taylor was trained by Al Gore as part of The Climate Project to spread the message about climate change around the country. He has spoken to thousands of people about how humans have burned enormous amounts of fossil fuels for energy over the past hundred years.
But "global warming is not just doom and gloom," says Taylor. "The steps to solve this problem represent a monumental opportunity. Sixteen trillion dollars is to be invested in energy in the next 20 years, so it's a $16 trillion question."
By investing that money in climate-friendly technology like wind and solar power instead of more coal plants, Taylor argues we can make a huge difference in greenhouse gas emissions.
With people like Taylor taking action on the climate crisis by telling others, we can make global warming an issue that future teenagers will look back on as this generation's success story.
This is just one example of how individuals, organizations, businesses and governments are helping to stop climate change. There are thousands more across the country and around the world – and it’s through these efforts that we’re going to be successful. We can’t afford not to succeed in this unprecedented challenge to our planet.
