Repower America: 100% of our Electricity from Renewable and Clean Sources—in 10 Years
On July 17, Al Gore challenged America to produce 100 percent of our electricity from energy sources with zero carbon emissions - including renewable sources like wind, solar, and geothermal power - and do so in 10 years. While the threat of catastrophic climate change grows more immediate everyday, the solutions have never been more within reach. Help us take action today to meet this ambitious but achievable goal.

An Ambitious Goal
- Our goal: 100% clean electricity -- from renewable and clean sources - in 10 years
- This goal addresses three interwoven problems we are facing in America today: A struggling economy, national security threats, and a climate crisis caused by burning fossil fuels
- We all have an urgent need to act -- the consequences will be severe if we don't
- This goal is achievable -- there are no technology or materials constraints
- The only thing missing is the political will to take action
- We have a choice: We can continue relying on fuels that pollute, and make our economy inefficient and subject to huge energy price swings out of our control, OR we can switch, moving toward fuel supplies that are abundant, clean, efficient and free.
The Solutions Exist
- Energy efficiency: by helping American families save energy in their homes and businesses, we reduce demand, save money on energy bills, improve productivity and comfort, and eliminate the need to build more traditional power plants
- Renewable energy: abundant, clean, and ready now, we can accelerate use of resources like wind, photovoltaic, solar thermal, and geothermal power
- An interconnected national smart grid (upgrades to our power line system) with smart meters and vehicle-to-grid innovations can provide power wherever it's needed, whenever it's needed
- What about coal? It's clean only if it safely captures and stores its carbon pollution
- What about nuclear? Our first priority is to invest in harnessing free and renewable energy sources.

Cost Savings
- A one-time capital investment in new infrastructure, with the bulk of funding coming from privately-financed sources
- The most important figure is the amount we'll save. We spend roughly $100 billion per year on coal and natural gas for our power plants, money we'd save with clean, free energy resources.

The only comprehensive, long-term solution
- 100% clean electricity will also enable clean transportation at stable prices with plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles.
