What We supporters are saying about the challenge

Want to share your own thoughts on Al Gore's challenge? We'd love to hear them.  You can see also examples of how We Campaign members helped set the record straight when talk of offshore drilling was diverting the national discussion on our energy future.

Al Gore's speech is a welcome break from the steady stream of bad news. I am inspired that he continues to share an exciting vision for the future, because that's what I dream about and work hard for every day.

The best, and most important speech I've heard in my entire long life of 56 years. The vision and challenge put forth by Mr. Gore are extraordinary, but most importantly, achievable with political fortitude. Thank you, Al, for devoting your life to saving this country from itself. This vision IS doable with leadership. We have to keep constant pressure on our elected officials to ensure that this vision becomes real. As soon as I can afford it, my house will be covered with solar panels.
-Steve V., Monument, CO

It is the best speech on the subject that I have heard!! [I am going] to get involved and contact everyone I can to support this program.
-Burton H., Hollywood, FL

This speech was the greatest call to US since President Kennedy's Challenge to the Moon, as Al Gore stated. I believe as an American that this is the only way to go as outlined by Mr. Gore. I thank him for his bold leadership and look forward to doing everything I can to support this cause and fight for the future of our planet and humankind. God Bless Vice President Gore for this work he has taken on! I will write letters to my local candidates as well as talking with neighbors, and doing everything I can to reduce my energy consumption at home and work. This is simply a matter of being more frugal and responsible as my mother and grandmother taught me to be.
-Cindy M., Independence, MO

It is a bold challenge, one that has needed to be made for some time. Now if we the people will follow through with the challenge we can work together with the whole world to make a difference. We can do it if we want to. All we need to do is to set our minds and hearts to it.
-Lee F., Torrington, WY

Finally someone had the courage to say what needed to be said. I thought putting it in the context of JKF's "Man on the moon" challenge was brilliant. This is America - we have the resources to get this done - but only if we rise up as one and demand that it happen.
-Lisa C.

I think this speech is exactly what this country needs to hear. The day of the nay-sayers is over. It's time for America to begin to strive for excellence again, and challenge ourselves. I do believe, as Al Gore said, that we are standing at a critical moment here. We either rise to the occasion, or we fall even further. I believe America will rise to the occasion, because Americans are truly a great people, with a wonderful innate optimism and determination and hope.

Right on target and right on time. We are at the prime spot in our history to make this move. Big Oil and Their shareholders will fight tooth and nail to keep fossil fuels as part of the solution thereby maintaining some control over the country's economy but we need to break free of this strangle hold on our economic purse strings. Great job!
-Sam R., Albany, GA

I thought it was an excellent speech, and he makes many very valid points. I believe the time to act IS now. I also believe that it is very much within the realm of possibility to make (and beat) the goal of producing 100% of our electric energy from renewable sources within 10 years. I also agree that we absolutely MUST reduce our dependence on fossil fuels for energy. They are expensive, they are bad for the environment and the results of using them cannot be controlled....
-Brian L., Chicago, Illinois

OMG what a powerful speech! This is the vision we have been needing as a country, put into a challenge so people can take action. I'm thrilled! ...Obviously we are the choir listening to Mr. Gore's speech. However, this has inspired me to sing much louder and make sure all my friends and neighbors are listening.
-Karen B., Burbank, CA

[The speech] actually made me tear up. This is our home and we're destroying it. [I] grow my own Veggies, Turn off my air condition unit, unplug items that are not in use, changed light bulbs, cut back on driving...a lot!
-Patricia K., South Carolina

Excellent, and can be done with proper political support that will not be subject to big oil influences. Local grass roots organizations, community by community can be the building blocks to the larger goal. I live on Dauphin Island, AL, a fragile but necessary barrier Island for Mobile, AL. Winds and Sun are always prevalent and with help, this Island could become a good example of energy efficiency through wind and solar power. Where does one get help to develop and fund such ambitious plans for this community?
-Kelby L., Dauphin Island, AL

The most important speech I've listened to in over 30 years. How different our country would be right now if Al Gore had been elected president. Our roof needs to be replaced in the next five years; I'm looking into solar options. I'm also putting off replacing my car until electric cars are available. Then I can have solar power to charge my electric car!! Something I've been wanting for years!!
