Build Power by Organizing a We Campaign Group
There are several reasons why local We Groups are so effective:
- They recruit more people, moving us closer to our goal of doubling the We Campaign membership this year to 2.6 million strong.
- They help people who care about climate change build relationships with others in their community.
- They lead to a plan of action where individuals take responsibility to ACT together to solve the climate crisis by holding leaders accountable.
-
When the We Campaign spots a new opportunity to advance the movement, We Group members are the people the We Campaign can count on to help.
Suggested Actions for We Groups
1. Organize customers of your local utility company to urge the company to offer more renewable energy. Click here for tips and more information.
2. Identify local political leaders, track their climate votes and make sure they know we're tracking them.
3. Identify leading local businesses, track the steps they are taking to reduce their climate impacts, and ask to meet with them about additional steps they might take.
4. Start a letter-to-the-editor campaign, in the community and in other communities.
5. Build a local Unlikely Alliances campaign by reaching across political and cultural lines.
6. Attend public meetings and campaign events, always asking about climate change policies the city, county, state or country might embrace.
7. Set up tables at the local farmers' market, fair or other public event to sign up others to our cause.
8. Find visible ways to insist that the media cover climate issues in your community.
9. Find ways to help voters see that, while changing light bulbs is important, changing our laws is an essential step.
10. Build media events to help our communities understand the potential climate change impacts on our community.
