Call on Your Elected Officials

Ask how our elected officials plan on helping us transition to a clean energy economy.

From providing incentives to energy companies, to regulating how our electricity is made, major decisions are made every day that can either perpetuate the status quo or point us in a new direction.  If we do not let our elected officials know where we stand, and do not ask them where they stand, change will not happen.

You would be surprised how much influence a single call (let alone a hundred) can make.  You can use our sample script or email included at the bottom as a starting point for your conversations.

  • Contact your Members of Congress (you can call the Capitol Switchboard at 202-224-3121 to be connected to the right office or find and email your Senator and Congressperson).
  • Contact your state senators and other elected officials.
  • Contact your governor.

We are interested in knowing how officials across the nation are responding. If you called and have gotten feedback, let us know:  click here.   We'll review responses and post a few to the website.

Phone Script:

"Hello, my name is _________.
I am calling because solving the climate crisis is important to me.  I wanted to ask [Elected Official] to support Al Gore's challenge to have 100% carbon-free electricity within a decade.
I would like [Elected Official] to endorse this challenge and respond in writing to me on how he/she plans concretely on transitioning into a clean energy economy."

Sample Email:

Dear [Elected Official]:

As an active resident of [Everytown], I am eager to see our region lead the way in combating the climate crisis.  I am asking that you agree to meet Al Gore's challenge to create a carbon-free electricity system. I would like to know if you support this goal, and what you will do to move our own electricity production here towards 100% carbon free.

I look forward to seeing action on these issues in the coming weeks and months.

Sincerely,

Robin ConcernedCitizen
